1-2-2012 Mayor Ballard's Polar Bear Pedal

Come one come all to the Polar Bear Pedal! This is a 12.2 bike ride, presented by BGI, to celebrate the connectivity of Indy's bicycle trails. It starts downtown at the BGI bike hub, breaks for hot chocolate at Major Taylor's Velodrome, and finishes back at the bike hub downtown. This is sure to be a fun and friendly event and best of all - it's free! Onsite registration begins at 10am and the ride commences at 11am on 1/2/2012.

On Thanksgiving Sophia, Kevin and I will be doing a Tour down south to go cave hunting. We will be leaving thanks giving morning. This trip will have no support and will be tons of fun! Bring your camping gear and joy for the winter. We already have two campsites on in Brown County state park Thursday night and will be camping at a unknown place at the caves. Then on the way back Saturday will be staying in Yellow wood state forest and Sunday you'll be back in your bed! We willl be leaving from Pepys in fountain square at 7am.

I hope to see a big turn out see you all then!

A lot of people will be on touring bike getting ready for the hilly so a casual pace. We will be meeting Calvin Fletcher's at 10am,this ride should top out around 60 miles! hope to see you all there!

I can assure you, however, that I will be posting more often. I am riding w/ a couple of friends, also velonauts, to Nashville, IN for a nice weekend. Pics and reports of the ride(s) to come. Hey guy's, I just wanted to say that we miss you all and I can't wait to come home in a month! I hope that you all can come out on a Bloomington ride with me and also some 5am coffee runs . On August 14Th I will be shooting to win the Indiana State Champing Chip race, I hope that all of you can make it out to watch. Also I need to know if anyone has a 52 cm bike I can race while I'm out there, so I would not have to bring my bike back ? Thanks and see you Soon ! P.S went surfing for the first time today, I got hit in the face with a Bord of a 7 foot wave it hurt so bad .

Kind of a late starting time for the ride but it's light till 9. We roll at 1 from the circle. It gets a little hilly down south. fixed gear riders be prepared to get out of the saddle and pull with your arms as you push with your feet. Geared bikes always welcome. 60 miles round trip. Stop to eat in morgantown. No one will be dropped.

This is the beginning of our longer rides. look for columbus, anderson, tipton in the near future (all flat centuries) then catarack falls (some hills, 110 miles), nashville (one 2 mile hill, 100 miles) then bloomington in august when jake returns (big hills, 120 miles). Maybe even a return trip to louisville (250 miles over 2 days).

To stop or not to stop...

Cyclists as it were, are fighting for a lot of rights in Indianapolis, and I believe we're making some strong headway. Miles of bikelanes, new trails that are connecting downtown with the rest of the city and to itself. Advocates like INDYCOG, are making it easy to find out what's happening. One thing that generally bothers the hell out of me is red lights. It's not waiting for them to turn green, generally, it's seeing other folks on bikes run the red light for no apparent reason. If we're going to be on the roads then we need to obey the rules. This brings me to my biggest frustration w/ the situation, however, which isn't other people on bikes, it's lights that don't acknowledge bikes. 42nd and College, Fall Creek and Delaware/Penn. and I'm sure a slew of other lights use sensors to switch from red to green. If there aren't vehicles there, they skip particular directions to keep traffic moving. While on my bike, I use it as a vehicle, however, when I'm stopped at these lights, they don't recognize me as being there. I've waited over 10 minutes and watched traffic switch multiple times, with no cars coming my way. I then, proceed to run a red light, which is against the law and against my natural inclination, but if bikes aren't recognized at lights, how can people on those bikes be expected to not run them? Another take on red light running here.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to say that we had a great time coming home and seeing everyone. I'm glad that everyone is doing well and are trying to stay on those bike. Thing's to come, I hope that a lot of you are planning and getting ready to put some miles in for the Hilly and also Rain that is up coming this year. I should be back in Aug for the Mas Ave Crit. I can only hope to see all of you guys there and on those bikes. It's winter.

Ill be at the circle for coffee at 1 but I'm not riding. It has nothing to do with the weather (25, wind at 15mph and 13 wind chill, some snow), I just have too much homework to do. working on a parabola lesson. still have gravity and angle of trajectory to do.

I rode the monon today and it was not that bad but there will be a hard freeze tonight. I think it will be treacherous sunday. We probably should ride another route. Also , mid 20s and snow means we may want to do a shorter ride. My feet got cold with sandals. None of you folks are going to show up anyway.

Nice thing about this ride is that if you don't want to ride the whole way, you can stop in Broad Ripple, Nora or Carmel and we will pick you up on the ride back. Latest weather say the temp will be in the mid 20s and maybe snowing so dress appropriately. This is balaclava weather.

Hey everyone I just wanted to say hi from Los Angeles . I have been working in a shop called bikerowave that is a vary kool place you should check out their web site bikeroeave.com. I have the cardinal out here now thanks to Brian. I also will be having my brooks seat back also thanks to Eric thanks man! Sophia and I have decided that we will be out here at lest about 2 years for some of my school and while she will be in the lab at UCLA. It is getting better out here by the day. We will be coming back for about 2 weeks in Dec. Hoping to see all of you guys and go on a ride or two. We are right now staying in a 3 bed room house and have a great place if any of you want to come out and spend any time you can crash with us. Hello everyone! We are having an adventure filled time out on the road ... Yesterday, we rode around 130 miles. It was long and we had 5 flats ... ending in a 1 mile walk into Kayenta, AZ at 10:00pm. Now we are rolling on a tire with a hole in it about the size of a dime and 5 patched tubes that don't look too strong ... on the other hand we just ordered 5 new tubes and a new Schwalbe tire for my rear wheel for general delivery in Grand Canyon, AZ about 150 miles away. Wish us luck until we get them at the Grand Canyon... Well, we miss you guys and we are getting close to the end! As of now, the end date is Sept. 3, 2010!

Broken steer tube on my Raleigh = replacement bike, this 1998 Bianchi Volpe. I'll work to get the Raleigh going over time, but I got this bike for about the price of a new fork and headset, and the Raleigh was in need of more so, to save a bit of money now, I picked this up and changed out the cables and handlebar/stem/brake levers/bar ends...
