Velonauts Bluegrass Ride

June 12-14, 2010 we will be taking a ride from Indianapolis to Orange County Indiana for the Lotus Dickey Hometown Reunion, an annual bluegrass festival. We will be leaving Friday the 12th at 8 am sharp, head to Bloomington for lunch and will be staying in Mitchell, IN for the evening. Saturday morning we will head on to Orleans where the festival is being held. That night we will ride about 11 miles to Paoli for dinner and sleep. Sunday morning we will be heading back to Indianapolis, leaving at about 8 am. We will again probably break for lunch in Bloomington and then back to Indy. It's about 100 miles each way, give or take, depending on the final route. There will be SAG support, sleeping provisions don't include beds, so sleeping bags, mats and the like will be supplied by each rider. Only four meals will be provided, dinner on Friday and Saturday and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. You will need plenty of snacks, water and money for the trip.

Some money will be needed to pay for the SAG and meals, however, it is somewhat dependent on the number of riders as to what each one will pay, but we will have an idea as we find out how many riders will be coming.

This should be a really fun ride, relaxed for the most part. We'll see some beautiful country, hear some great bluegrass and maybe even catch a movie or two at the Drive-In. Comment if you'd be up for it so we can get an idea of how many people are interested.

Yee-haw.

Anderson Ride Part II

We are going to ride the 100 miles to Anderson again on the originally scheduled date, Saturday April 3rd (Easter Saturday). We will meet at 8:AM at the Calvin Fletcher Coffee shop at 615 Virgina Avenue. Half the ride to Anderson will be split between the Monon trail and the multi-use path along 146 street which takes us to Noblesville. The rest of the ride is along a 20 mile stretch across route 32. Our Anderson destination is the Bike and Boards bike shop, a vintage/used parts shop with a lot of old stuff.

It's a long ride but there are no big hills and we will be making several stops. There is no support car so bring water, energy bars and spare tubes. Anyone who did the Morgantown ride should be able to do this ride without too much trouble. No one will be dropped. Don't forget the sun screen. The overall ride will take between 10-12 hours. Hope to see you all there.

Trade in that Carbon Fork towards this steel beauty...

Rivendell offers one heck of a deal for you folks with carbon forks. Visit their site :http://www.rivbike.com/products/show/carbonoms-fork/50-718# to find out why you might be interested in this. You can also go to http://www.bustedcarbon.com for some visuals.
Unless you're an extremely competitive racer you may want to rethink carbon as your first choice for bicycle material. Anywho, just throwing it out there, ride on what you feel works best.

Great Cycling Quotes...

Mankind has invested more than four million years of evolution in the
attempt to avoid physical exertion. Now a group of backward-thinking
activists mounted on foot-powered pairs of Hula-Hoops would have us
pumping our legs, gritting our teeth, and searing our lungs as though
we were being chased across the Pleistocene savanna by saber-toothed
tigers. Think of the hopes, the dreams, the effort, the brilliance,
the pure force of God that, over the eons, has gone into the creation
of the Cadillac Coupe de Ville. The great Satan bicycle riders would
have us throw all this on the ash heap of history.

- Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf, former Iraqi Minister of Information

If you have any quotes, feel free to leave them in the comments section.

Ride to Morgantown Pics

The day was bright, the sun was warm. The night was cold, the rain was wet. Overall the first Velonauts ride went well. A couple of hurt fingers, some muddy clothes and great memories. More pics will be on our flickr when we set up the account.
