Sunday Ride (5/2) Morgantown (was Columbus)

We will meet at Starbucks on the circle at 10:am. This is a repeat of the first Velonauts ride. It's 60 miles round trip and there are some hills. We will stop in Morgantown to eat and rest. It's pretty much all back roads. It's a nice ride and the pace will be maintained so that no one is dropped.

Maybe Columbus next weekend. Watch this space.

Saturday Ride ( 5/1) Clay Terrace

We will be leaving Calvin Fletcher coffee shop at 10 AM. We will ride up the Monon to 146th st and head to clay terrace. The plan is to stop for coffee/food there and then head back home the same route. The total ride is about 30 miles (for real CJ) and we should be back around 1:pm. The ride will be at a leisurely pace. No one will be dropped.

Taco Ride

Every Monday (if it's not raining) there is a ride from Joe's Cycles to a taco cart somewhere. The ride is organized by our friend, Josh. They leave Joe's at 6:30. How bout we get some velonauts on that ride next Monday (if it's not raining).

Eagle Creek Weekend Extravaganza: epilog

We had 4 riders, CJ, Matt, Linna and Brian. It was a little longer ride than was posted. More like 60 miles instead of the 45 mile estimate. We all made it although it was touch and go with CJ at the end. In his defense, this was by far, his longest ride and he hung in there. Good job CJ. We found a few good hills. Eagle Creek is a very nice park.

Eagle Creek Weekend Extravaganza Update

Saturday is still on. The Sunday race was cancelled but we will still be riding out there at 2:pm for anyone who can't make it Saturday or just wants to ride both days. Departure for both is Calvin Fletcher.

Indycog

It's a great blog about biking in Indy. Today it features our own Eric Nolan

Eagel Creek Weekend Extravaganza

Actually it is just 2 events. There is a 10:am Saturday ride that leaves Calvin Fletcher coffee shop. We are riding out to Eagle Creek park, doing a loop inside, stopping for coffee/food and heading home.

Sunday is the date for the Eagle Creek Criterion and we have 2 Velonauts racing, Jake and Eric H. They are racing at 8:30am. We are riding from Calvin Fletcher and leaving at 6am to head out and watch the race.

It's $3 per bike or $25 for a season pass to get into the park. Cash and Check only.

Little 500

The men's little 500 race is the same day as the eagle creek ride, April 24. The race is at 2:pm. My thinking is that we could leave Indy (from Calvin Fletcher Coffee shop) around 7:am. This would give us plenty of time to ride to Bloomington in time for the race. After the race is over, we would head back to Indy leaving Bloomington by 5:pm and back in Indy between 9-10:pm. The route is almost all back roads and is about 60 miles (120 total). Anyone who made the Morgantown ride has done the first half of the route. The second leg has more hills than the first part.

This is a challenging ride, especially for anyone who wants to ride it fixed gear. It goes through some beautiful country. No one will be dropped. If we can get at least 3 people to commit to this trip, we will ride. Post here if you are interested.

Eagle Creak Ride

On Saturday, April 24th, we are planning a ride from Calvin Fletcher Coffee shop to Eagle Creek Park. Once in the park, we will take the big circle around the park then head back. We will meet at 10:am the the total ride will be around 45 miles. Admission to the park is $3/bike or $25 for a season pass. I highly recommend purchasing a season pass as the park is a great place to ride and train.

Louisville Ride Recap

Kevin, Jake and I just got back from a 2 day round trip to Louisville. We left about 7am Friday morning. Spent the night in Louisville and returned the next day arriving back in Indianapolis about 10:30pm. It was about 125 miles each way. As part of this trip, we found a nice route to Columbus that we will use for a future trip. Our route involved country roads after we got outside Indianapolis until we reached Columbus and then the rest of the trip was down rt. 31. There were no big hills and we road geared bikes so that made the trip easier but its still a very long way for one day.

I was very stiff and sore (you can guess the parts) when we got to Louisville which caused me some concern about the second day. As it turns out, we rode faster the second day than the first. We visited a great bike shop in Louisville and this town looks to be a very bike friendly city. we had fantastic weather and overall, it was a great trip.

Next thing we knew we hit are final 19 mile strip. We entered Anderson around 12:30pm Stopped in a the best pizza king I have ever gone to they gave up towels to clean up with and also let us bring are bikes right in side, and Linna got to stand by the stove to warm up.. We got a large veggie and also a pitcher of beer and headed back into the rain went down to the local bike which they were not open. SO Linna Kevin and I started to head back home. We hit a big head wind coming back but we got in a line and lost only a little bit of time had 2 more stops and the next thing we knew home sweet home... The ride ended with Yats and a power was for the bikes.. Thanks to every one that came and helped out...
