2010 Velonauts Ride

We will be hosting a ride from Indianapolis to Morgantown and back on Sunday March 7, 2010. The ride is approximately 50-60 miles and we will keep a pace that allows everyone to have a good time. We'll meet up at Calvin Fletcher's Coffee at 615 Virginia Ave in Indianapolis at 11:00 a.m. All cyclists are welcome. You only need to bring your bike, a lil' cash for food and drink and a willingness to have fun. If you have any questions, post a comment and we'll reply as promptly as we can. You can also call or text Jake at 317 205 2512 with any questions.

Bring as many gears as you'll need, some I'm sure will be doing this ride fixed, but many will have road bikes, the whole point is to just have fun.

Rivendell's TIps for Happy Riding

The guys and gals of Rivendell know a bit about biking. They have their opinions and many others have differing opinions, but I think everyone who rides should study a bit about riding, learn what others think and develop your own philosophies based on your experience and preferences. Having said that here is a pretty decent list to make sure you have a good and safe time on the bike.

Nice day...

Jake and I rode today, the usual ride to get coffee and back downtown, it was nice to be back out, it's almost been a week since we've hit the streets. The winter, snow and lack of Brian has been a driving force behind this, but we're nearing the end and Spring is coming...keep riding when you can and we'll be under the sun before you know it...

shellac

Maybe I'm crazy, but thus far I've found nothing as good lookin' as bars w/ shellac. I've done the Sekine in cotton w/ shellac which not only makes the aesthetic of the bars much nicer, it actually weather-proofs it as well, with many people finding there to be no need to replace more than once every 10 years or so. I've recently tried shellac with some white "cork" gel tape from Torelli on the Trek above, I think they turned out nice.

Training

This past week has been a good week for indoor training for us.. Eric H., Charlie , and I have been hitting the rollers pretty hard waiting for the doors on the track to open. This is going to be once more a cold week for us all,so let's still get out there and ride in the am. Just wanted to say good luck to Eric H. and Sophia VB on their 5mile and 3 mile run at the Polar Bear race.

Ride Your Bike

Hand printed posters made right here in Indy by Velonauts' Flatland Kitchen.

Works in Progress, Nolan style...

These bikes include an 80's Miyata 310 (Sophie's), a Trek Elance 400 from '87 (Eric's), a Cardinal Original Sin track bike (Eric's) and a Radio Flyer Tricycle (Hank's).

Photos by Eric Nolan, via Brandon Heath's nice lil' point and shoot, quality depth of field, surprised me.

Logo for chest of jersey and....

What do the velonauts think about this logo for the left chest are of jerseys and possibly stickers or what not? The logo on top of the blog would be on the back. The full logo might be on the front of shirts, with something else on back or this logo could be larger on the front and the large logo on back??? Let's discuss sometime soon, get shirt sizes together and get some ordered and printed....

Rivendell Reader 42

Follow this link: http://www.rivbike.com/assets/payloads/212/original_RR42.pdf
if you'd like to find more than you can possibly read in one sitting. There's a lot of info on various things, but I really like the story on page 68, about cyclists and motorists on the roadways. Please read this if nothing else. If you appreciate the reader you can order a paper edition for $4 or so from Rivendell. It's good stuff, well thought out, even if you disagree.

CIBA swap meet

On February 14, that's Valentine's Day, CIBA is having a bike swap meet in Noblesville after a brief ride. The link is here, I'd like to ride up and go, but we'll all have to see if it works out for each of us...

peace love and bikes

The eyes of these two men have been covered to keep their identities hidden and allow them to lead safe and prosperous lives.

A couple of shots from an early morning ride, we're headed back downtown just after sun up.

First Gallery Shots...

The first bike shots are of, you guessed it, My bike. The 1973 Raleigh International sans the new handlebar/brake set up.

Ride Tomorrow...

Ahoy, we're gonna ride tomorrow (Wednesday), it should be another relatively warm one. We're meeting at Calvin Fletcher's at 5:30 and off to Hubbard and Craven's on Penn. We'll sit, drink coffee and talk the usual bike talk.

The Cardinals should be done by the end of the week, we're looking forward to a weekend ride for at least a couple of them.

On a side note, if you're riding at all, make sure you're brakes are tight and effective, Brian "Skid but no Stop" was in an accident today and reminded me of how quickly things can happen. We need all the help we can get when it comes to our equipment, so be safe, be careful and please ride with a brake, a tight one.

nice ride...

Hey nice ride this morning, though a bit chilly, we'll be riding again tomorrow with more of the same temperature wise, so Charlie lose the red gloves and get you some knit underlayers. Have a great day and I'll see most of you tomorrow at 5:30-ish.

Cycling Meetup, courteous critical mass...

Hey, as some of you may know, there's a cycling meetup group in Indy, they can be found here: www.meetup.com/indycycling , they're having a courteous critical mass, it would be nice to get some velonauts there and meet some more cyclists...
